My Family

For over a month now i have had the great privilege of being with all the people I love most. Right when school ended I flew over to Utah and visited my family and my best of best friends. A couple days after my trip all my Brothers and sisters came to visit me and my family in Florida for a Family Reunion. I also got to visit my cousins and my aunts and uncles.
If you want to know about the reunion im sure you can visit any blog in my family. On this post I want to talk about what I have realized in these couple weeks.
My life is full of ups and downs and loopy loops. Sometimes I am amazed at how hard certain things can be, but with all those challenges I always seem to find something better that makes me forget about all the hard challenges. My family is that something better. They have ways to make me smile real big and keep me happy.
Being with my brothers and sisters have, sometimes, been... odd. Everyone has a couple now!! Every time we would go swimming, snorkeling, or even walking at DisneyWorld my brothers and sisters would grab their spouses hand and walk, or swim, away. At that point I would wonder who I should follow and annoy! But also I would think of how jealous I was. I can't wait to hold that special girls hand and go on adventures and have more fun than ever before. I can't wait to marry my wife and live hapily ever after!
Anyways I LOVE my brothers and sisters. I LOVE my mother and father. I LOVE my best friend in this world.

Sneak Peak

I was assigned to give a talk for sacrament. I would like to share it with you and if you read it before 9 15 tomorrow you will be the first to hear it!! But anyway i hope not to read the talk straight from the paper, i hope to add and lose stuff as a go. I hope you like it!!!

Good morning brothers and sisters. I was asked today to give a talk on the steps I am taking to prepare for a mission. I am only 3 years 6 days 18 hours 14 minutes and 52 seconds away from going on my mission, give or take an hour or so…. But that time is flying by brothers and sisters and now is when we need to start to prepare. Today I will talk about 4 major things we all can do to prepare for a mission.

The first thing is PHYSICAL PREPERATION. Missionaries get physically tested almost every day from riding bikes up big hills or walking from one door to another. It requires good health, stamina, and strength. Missionaries have to rise early and work hard until late at night.
But physical preparation does not just include being fit. As much as you beg and plead, your mother cannot go on the mission with you. Without her we need to learn how to cook and clean. We need to learn how to patch clothing, wash and iron our shirts, press our pants, and shine our shoes. Don’t forget we need to learn how to wake up from an alarm clock!
Money is also a big issue. Right now we need to start saving for our missions and learn how to create and follow a budget.

The second thing is MENTAL PREPERATION. When we go to school what do we think about? Do we think about how we can’t wait to go home to watch our favorite T.V. show? Maybe we think about the cute guy or girl in our 2nd hour class. Whatever it is I would like suggest a better idea. When we go to school we should think about our future. Education is an important step to preparing for our missions and ultimately preparing for our career and family life. We need to study hard and try our best to succeed.
Reading the Scriptures can benefit you for your whole life. Ezra Taft Benson once said: “the Book of Mormon will change your life. It will fortify you against the evils of our day. It will bring a spirituality into your life that no other book will. It will be the most important book you will read in preparation for a mission and for life. A young man who knows and loves the Book of Mormon, who has read it several times, who has an abiding testimony of its truthfulness, and who applies its teachings will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil and will be a mighty tool in the hands of the Lord”.

The next thing is SOCIAL PREPERATION. Many people get nervous going up to strangers and spreading the word of god. We need to gain faith in ourselves and in our lord. In D&C 100:5-6 it says: Therefore, verily I say unto you, lift up your voices unto this people; speak the thoughts that I shall put into your hearts, and you shall not be confounded before men; For it shall be given you in the very hour, yea, in the very moment, what ye shall say. We can practice this by being missionaries to the people around you. Joseph Smith once said, “ After all that has been said, the greatest and most important duty is to preach the gospel.“ By teaching your friends and neighbors you will gain confidence and faith in the lord.
You also need to learn to follow all rules. The mission is filled with rules. You will be spending 24/7 with your companion. You need to learn to get along and respect others.

The last thing I will be talking about today is SPIRITUAL PREPERATION. Missionaries must be in tune with the spirit of the lord. We must learn to follow the guidance of the holy ghost. We can do this by following these few steps:
Keep your life clean- Strive to stay clean in your thoughts and actions. Dirty thoughts is satins most powerful tool that he uses against you. It will only bring you down and scare the spirit away.
Prayer- Make sure to prey throughout the day. D&C 19: 28 says And again, I command thee that thou shalt prey vocally as well as in thy heart; yea, before the world as well as in secret, in public as well as in private.
Keep the commandments and honor the priesthood- This will bring you happiness and joy throughout your life. You will be blessed as a missionary and as a child of god.

These 4 steps I have taught you will better prepare you for a mission and your future life.

"Disaster, looked like a cyclone went through it."

"Disaster, looked like a cyclone went through it."-Ricky Horst
A couple days ago, when looking at some blog posts I was interrupted by my father. He was wondering why my room looked the way it did. After shrugging my shoulders and giving him a smart comment such as "I don't know, cause I live in there," he told me to hurry up and clean it. I explained to him that I was getting involved and was on my blog. He told me that I should show the real side of Sean with my messy room, soooo that's what i will be doing today:)

Today you will be seeing my room. I will give before and after pictures:) Some might call this clean, some might call this alright, but others call this a disaster.

This is my room, i went camping this weekend. That is not good news!!! Also, my bed thats suppsosed to be made every day.
A whole bunch of clothes and i see a history book!!

But BAM!!!! This is what it usual looks like. (wink wink)

Well there you go. A dirty room turned clean. But till next time THANKS FOR COMMENTING!!!!

Vanguard

A couple days ago after browsing through wal*mart, i found this very fashionable hat.
I decided that since this is my new team i should buy it:)

I definitely enjoy the knight in the front and the slick VANGUARD on the side. It has all three school colors and its great!! The back has the word KNIGHTS and it was worth my 10.00 bucks. Too bad i can't wear it to school HAHA! well anyway THANKS FOR COMMENTING!!!!!!

Sean vs. Wild

Disclaimer: This story is not a real story. For the True and honest story please visit, horstclan.blogspot.com

Saturday, February 7Th i Journeyed out for the survival of the fittest, for the test of bravery and strength. Me and the wild, Me vs. the wild. I started by driving through the grasslands of mid Florida. As exited as i look i know that soon ahead will be trials that will test me in every way possible.

When i arrive at my destination this is the first thing i see..The beginning of my problems. But one little sign cannot stop me from fulfilling my duty.

I head out to the water to find some food for the night. I keep my eyes open for those gators and walk around the grasslands in search.

Another hole. This is too small for me to sleep in. It is too big for a snake and too small for most other things. It probably fits raccoons or skunks.

This is Poky Pear. I almost stepped in this!! Poky Pear has sharp needles. Also they have tiny hairs that are so small you can hardly see them! If they get stuck in your hands than it will hurt and burn! it is very hard to get off.

After finding my way home the first thing i did was sleep.

St. Augestine, FL

Saturday was an adventurous day. My parents and I headed out to my cousins house for a nice day together. Our cousins lived on Redington Beach, but we did not go on the sand and in the water thanks to the freezing 60 or so degrees weather. After visiting for a moment we went out and ate lunch.
After the fabulous lunch we headed down to the Military Museum, one of the best i have ever been to. It was filled with real trucks, tanks, jeeps, RPG's, guns, bombs, and much much more!!!
After the EXITING museum we went to the not so exiting Holocaust museum. I did like learning more about what happened during that time of world trouble but there were no artifacts. I am like a kid, without the real things left over from the holocaust it is just boring. To end the museum there was an original train cart that held over 160 passengers, now that was cool and it ended the tour very well.
(TOP)the entrance to the museum...cool!!
(BOTTOM) A real tank...can you just imagine if that was on...and loaded...against your AK-47

This is a 100% authentic uniform of Suddam Hussein. It is the only uniform that is based in America and well.....i would rather burn it but hey we have to remember our kids!!!

Me with my only friend Ryan. haha yes i know we do use the same facial expressions for pictures:)....(his whole body is seen in the first picture)

We stopped going to museums and decided to go to a mall....sitting on a dock. Walking up the dock we saw 2 beautiful dolphins swimming together. They were not there for long but whenever i get a chance to see them i get so exited cause dolphins are the greatest ocean animal ever!! i have been great full to have a couple experiences with dolphins before:)
When we got to the front of the mall we walked right through a pelican feeding station...BAD IDEA!!! The pelicans waited until we were in reaching distance until they took off....RIGHT IN OUR FACES!! If you have not seen a pelican before than ill just fill you in.....

Wingspan of a pelican..around 6 1/2 feet
The pouch on the beak can hold 17 pints of water...i don't know how big that is but it is probably about the size of my head!!!
height..4 feet high

As you can see you would be scared when these wings are about to smack your face...kinda like i was.
Anyway after that experience we went into a couple shops. In one the nice store clerk talked to me about the different items in the store. After using a different sales pitch for about 6 items he gave up...right before i left he pointed me in the direction to a real?? meteorite. The rock was average size but was very deceiving. He asked me to lift it and when i tried nothing happened!! I realized that meteorites are triple the weight of a normal rock in the same amount of space!! amazing:)
so than we went to dinner with all the super bowl maniacs and had a blast. BTW the whole city was filled with Steelers fans the whole day and there were parties glore:) some big some small. THANKS FOR COMMENTING!!!!

My House

I have been living in this house since Saturday. It is a very nice home that feels so comfortable. Here are a couple pictures....
This is my swimming pool!! kinda small but very cool and its a great place to sit and relax...(with the chairs behind me)

This is my "Play" Room or movie Room. We have a PlayStation TV and DVD player in that cabinet. The computer is also in there right behind me.
This is my room. There is the closet and my two dresser drawers. I love to have windows in my room....epecailly when there is a breeze.

This is another picture of my room. M desk and my bed.... and by the way the wall paper is the same color:)

This is our family room. The kitchen is to the left and the pool is to the right. This is an arial view from the play room upstairs.

So anyway this is my wonderfull house. Obviously everything is unpacked and we are about settled in.

THANKS FOR COMMENTING!!

School for the first time

First some of you might be wondering about the drive to Florida... Well my mom nicely wrote that on her blog so i would not have to do it. To read it please click.......here http://horstclan.blogspot.com/2009/01/well-we-left-utah-on-freezing-cold.html

~

Anyway today was my first day of school...i can sum it up in one small timeline

1. Got to school at 8:45...late? No, actually 30 minutes early. I just love to sleep in:)

2. Went into the school and grabbed my schedule (the one that will be changed tomorrow)

3. Entered my science class and got to talk to a nice boy and girl...only to find out that they majored in swearing...and i scratched the first 2 friends off my list

4. Went to guitar class...This is the class that will cause the schedule change instead i will enter P.E. Great!!

5. Went to lunch, got in line and remembered i never got a lunch code! i got the code, grabbed a bite to eat, and sat alone. Alone until 5 random girls came and talked for a second:) how nice.

6. Went to my last class, filled with people twice the size of me. I am the youngest one in my class.

7. I finally got called down to get my books and remembered that there were no lockers. This is where i put my muscles to work, lugging the big books across the campus.

After school our family went to possibly the nicest retirement community in the nation, The Villages. WHY? well there was a good pizza place:) This community was huge! with a old Spanish theme. My favorite part was watching the seniors drive their golf carts around town looking for trouble to cause.

oh and there was also a very old man riding a bike with his shades and classy biking outfit. he was riding fast and in a flash another man with perfectly creased slacks ran out in front of him and almost got hit! The biker played it casually and put a nice back tire skid to his stop...(show off!!) haha every time we turned around we had something to laugh about...we were surrounded by them.

Home on the Open Road?

Day 2 of my journey.
I have been living in a chevy impala for the last two days. Would i call it home? Not exactly, although i do love road trips and i do love to see the deserted land of america. Some might call me crazy but i have been enjoying my ten hours of sitting down looking at nothing. To fill the time i have been singing, dancing, and illegally driving. I only have a UTAH permit, notice how it is a UTAH permit meaning i am only supposed to drive in UTAH. As of today i have sucessfully driven in four states including Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas totalling six and a half driving hours. I cant wait to go to Drivers Ed saying i have already been driving for ten months with a cross the country drive under my belt... belt buckle that is. Now here are some pictures.....taken with our camera....than taken from my camera phone and than sent to my email....I will get some nice pitures shortly. You know pictures that are not blury and sideways. Thanks for commenting!!!
